2024 Queensland Self Insurer Awards

 

ASIEQ held the inaugural Queensland Self Insurer Awards as part of the 2024 Conference – ‘Gaining momentum and leading the way’.  Self Insurance is a niche sector and there are few opportunities to recognise our hard working team members.  ASIEQ encouraged nomination from self-insured employers for their star team members, so our Industry could recognise their outstanding performance.

“Rising Star Award”

For team members with less than 5 years’ experience in the Workers’ Compensation Scheme in Queensland – an opportunity for self insurers to recognise their star performer.

Kamilla is a claims specialist with Coles Group has worked in the workers compensation space for just over 6 months and has embodied the essence of a true Rising Star through her hunger to learn, initiative to seek guidance and in striving for excellence. She delivers an exceptional performance through:

Her innate curiosity drives her to ask pertinent questions, seek innovative solutions, and face challenges with a positive mindset, ensuring customer engagement throughout the process. Her contributions have significantly resonated with Coles team members and leadership, steering everyone’s focus towards supportive and sustainable outcomes for recovering team members. Kamilla embodies Coles’ values of Care, Customer, Courage, and Create in every aspect of her role and is the inaugural Rising Star winner for 2024. Congratulations Kamilla Saba!

 

“Spirit Award”

This Award is for the person who puts in the extra effort within the self insurance team environment, who has made a significant contribution to team culture, inclusion, mental health support and morale.  This can include administration team members or any other roles within your organisation that work within self insurance.

Carol has worked for the Coles Group for over 25 years. Carol was nominated for the Spirit Award as her team recognise her as a cornerstone of the Coles self- insurance team. For over 25 years Carol has embodied the essence of this award through her unparalleled commitment to fostering a positive team environment, enhancing culture and inclusion, and being a steadfast pillar for her team. Carol’s exceptional contributions extend beyond her official duties, continually ensuring that the well- being of her colleagues is front and centre, and at times staying back late to process urgent claims where a team member may be awaiting urgent treatment or surgery.  Furthermore, her approach to challenges, especially in navigating technological obstacles, is met with resilience and a sense of humour that uplifts everyone around her. Carol relentlessly strives for excellence with her delivery of quality work, which is paramount for the claims team to deliver prompt, reliable, and a trustworthy experience to their customers. Carol’s customer-centric approach, particularly with the meticulous handling of evidence and entering data has set a high standard for excellence. Carol’s unwavering dedication to her team, knowing that delivering quality of work is so important in their critical roles helping injured team members with their recovery, is what makes her a true embodiment of the “Spirit Award.” Congratulations Carol Burford!

 

“Outstanding Achievement – Claims Specialist”

This Award is for the Claim Specialist who has excelled in their role (this includes achieving exceptional outcomes, consistent amazing feedback and/or may be based on a depersonalised example of excellent claims management).

Christine is a Senior Workers Compensation Officer at Townsville City Council and has been a part of their self-insurance team for over 11 years. Christine epitomises excellence in every part of her role, from gaining commitment to achieving exceptional outcomes, consistently earning positive feedback and demonstrating outstanding claims management practices. Christine’s exemplary communication skills have earned her exceptional reviews from both colleagues and external stakeholders. She is always a first point of call for advice and questions, especially through her ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner, gaining trust by many. Christine builds rapport with injured workers, and always prioritises their best interests during their return-to-work transition. Through Christine’s commitment and guidance, the Townsville City Council team have not only achieved remarkable results but continue to collaborate and find innovative ways to improve day-to-day tasks. As a part of the Townsville self-insurance team Christine has also been instrumental in helping the team achieve fabulous results relating to average claims costs, average work days lost and RTW rates. A number of testimonials were received about Christine’s calming, welcoming and professional approach making her the inaugural winner of the Outstanding Achievement  – Claims Specialist Award. “Outstanding Achievement – Claims Manager”

This Award is for the manager who has excelled in their role, inspiring and developing claims team members.

Carla has been a part of the Bolton Clarke Team for over 8.5 years and is the Team Leader Injury Management for Qld, NSW & Tas. Carla is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of rehabilitation and return to work across those states. In Qld she leads a team of two in addition to managing a portfolio of her own comprising of complex rehabilitation cases. Carla is a qualified physiotherapist and her clinical guidance within the team over the last 8.5 years has been an invaluable asset that assists in the strategy, development, and recovery of their injured workers. She is committed and passionate about recovery within the workplace and promotes this in her everyday interactions with our injured workers, managers, and treating providers. Carla understands the health benefits of work and she champions this relentlessly within the business, promoting and guiding internally within her team whilst also having the ability to have robust discussions when required with their workers, managers, and practitioners in turn. She is an outstanding role model within their rehabilitation space, completely committed to the recovery and best outcomes for our injured workers. Under her leadership and guidance Bolton Clark’s injury management team achieved an all-time high of 98.89% RTW rate in May last year and a result exceeding scheme/industry averages is maintained each month. Congratulations Carla on being the inaugural recipient of the Outstanding Achievement  – Claims Manager Award for 2024!

 

“Outstanding Achievement – Rehabilitation”

This Award is for outstanding achievement by internal, employer-based staff providing rehabilitation/injury management.  This can be a Rehabilitation Co-ordinator or Manager.

Madeleine’s has been a part of the City of Gold Coast Council for over 18 months and her dedication, proficiency and efforts have significantly contributed to the successful recovery of injured employees. Madeleine represents qualities of an outstanding RRTWC, consistently delivering high quality care through collaboration, and making a positive difference in the lives of City employees. In addition to achieving a high RTW rate, where employees have returned to their nominal role, she has also managed several complex cases – with some continued on after claim finalisation – with positive outcomes through permanently modified roles or medical redeplovment. The result of Madeleine’s dedication has led to satisfied employees now thriving in roles tailored to their needs. Madeleine consistently advocates, going above and beyond to provide compassionate care to each employee, evident through her interactions, fostering trust. She takes a proactive approach with open communication and collaboration among other stakeholders ensuring that individual care is provided for each circumstance. She empowers injured employees to take ownership in their own recovery by providing them with knowledge, resources, and support, enabling them to overcome barriers and achieve meaningful progress. Madeleine also develops good relationships with treatment providers, supervisors and host partners, evident through her ability to quickly support RTW, identify suitable duties and host placement when required. Congratulations to Madeleine Carlefalk as the winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award in Rehabilitation for 2024.

 

Judging

Winners were selected by the ASIEQ Executive Committee.

 

Prize

There was one successful winner per category.  Each winner received a complimentary ticket to the 2024 ASIEQ Conference where they received an Award.

 

Terms and Conditions

The judge’s decision on Award winners is final.

Applications will only be considered if received by the due date.

Applicants must agree to have their photo taken and used in social media.  We may also contact you prior to the conference for a short video.

The Award must be collected by the Award winner.

Nominee organisations need to be current financial members of ASIEQ that manage claims for Self Insurance in Queensland.  If the applicant is an Associate Member, the application must also be endorsed by a full ASIEQ member (the Self Insurer).

Any travel and accommodation required to attend the conference will be at the applicant’s expense.
